On the 27th, CHERRY, Korea’s first blockchain-based donation platform, announced that it has surpassed KRW 20 billion in cumulative donations. This milestone was achieved approximately five years and five months after its launch in December 2019. A Cherry spokesperson stated, “We are leading innovation in Korea’s donation culture by building a transparent donation ecosystem.”
Cherry utilizes blockchain-based micro-tracking technology to provide transparent visibility into how donations are used. It offers an environment where anyone can easily and enjoyably participate in giving. Key services include 'Cherry Walk', where donations are made simply by walking 'Cherry Sneakers Day', a group donation campaign where company employees or organization members walk together and 'Cherry Photo', where taking a photo results in an automatic donation.
Cherry Walk allows individuals to donate automatically through the app just by walking.
Cherry Sneakers Day is a walking-focused campaign. It is gaining attention as a program that promotes both ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) values and team building by encouraging groups such as companies, churches, and nonprofit organizations to walk and donate together.
Cherry Photo enables donations through photo-taking. Installed at university campuses, hotels, parks, and resorts, it allows people to donate seamlessly in everyday settings.
Cherry also operates donation kiosks, which are set up at businesses and event venues. These kiosks allow users to make small donations with a simple touch of the screen.
A Cherry representative stated, “We are expanding into a hybrid donation system that connects digital and real-world experiences through both online and offline touchpoints.”
Cherry has also succeeded in engaging younger generations. About 56% of its donors are from the MZ generation (Millennials and Gen Z), a result of creating donation experiences that are easily accessible in daily life.
