Korea’s first blockchain-based charity platform ‘CHERRY Hope Sharing Platform’ (hereafter referred to as CHERRY) announced on the 18th that it has started operating an ‘online donation service’ that enables customized donations for each church on the 10th and is attracting attention from the church community.
The ‘CHERRY Online Offering Service’ is a non-face-to-face charity platform that can open a separate page for each church and create various donation boxes with minimal registration procedures. The type of donation used by each church can be applied as it is, so it is possible to collect customized donations that make use of the characteristics of each church.
The existing non-face-to-face donations, which were carried out by account transfer, were inconvenient because you had to enter the account number one by one.
When a church invites a member by sharing a QR code and link, the member can easily donate through the church-specific page in CHERRY. There are various payment methods such as simple account transfer, Naver Pay, credit card, and virtual account, and there is also a “basket” function that allows you to pay for multiple donations at once. In addition, prayer titles and thanks messages can be recorded for each offering, so the meaning of existing face-to-face offerings can be implemented as it is.
A member of the youth group at Chungshin Church, a medium-sized church in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, which introduced the service, said, "It's convenient to donate with just a smartphone without having to remember the account number for each donation." I think it will be popular among young people who don't know.' The church said, 'Every week, the counting staff went through a complicated process of sorting donation envelopes and depositing money into the bank. There will be,” he said, expressing his anticipation.
Lee Sujeong, CEO of E4Net, an IT company that has been developing CHERRY for 25 years, said, “We will reflect the operating results and strive to actively improve services and actively expand services targeting various churches.” We will provide the platform only for a fee.” he said.
With online worship spreading as part of social distancing due to COVID-19, attention is focusing on whether the ‘CHERRY Online Offering Service’ can establish itself as a new order for donation culture.
Meanwhile, CHERRY, which launched the service in November 2019, was awarded the 2019 Minister of Science and Technology Information and Communication Award in recognition of its contribution to the vitalization of the blockchain-Fintech industry, and about 20 public interest organizations are currently conducting active fundraising campaigns.
