Warm transformation of blockchain technology, Korea’s first blockchain-based charity platform CHERRYf

When people think of blockchain, cryptocurrency usually comes to mind. In a 2020 survey of more than 2,000 people by U.S. consulting firm Borhouse Advisors and blockchain media Cryptonews.com, only 25% of adults were found to be aware of blockchain. Also, 62% of them recognized that blockchain and cryptocurrency are the same thing.

Asia is particularly notorious in the blockchain industry, which is dominated by negative images such as rapid fluctuations in market prices and reckless investments outside of policy boundaries. 55% of the world's top 20 cryptocurrency exchanges are operating in Asia, and 32% of all exchanges have offices in Asia, solidifying Asia's identity as the center of cryptocurrency trading.

However, Asian blockchain technology is not limited to speculative cryptocurrencies. The technical characteristics of blockchain, such as distributed storage and transparent disclosure of information, are fused with donations to be used in a positive way for all members of society. Korea's first blockchain-based charity platform 'CHERRY', developed and operated by Korea's IT company 'Eponet', is the main character.

‘CHERRY’ is designed to minimize the risk of misappropriation of donations by recording and transparently disclosing all information on donations raised and delivered on the blockchain in real time, and automatically delivering donations only through smart contracts. In addition, it provides various payment methods such as simple account payment, card payment, Naver Pay, and Lpay. It is also possible to pay for donations through L Point, so idle points accumulated and used at department stores can be used for donations.

Recently, 'CHERRY' has accumulated over 850 million won in accumulated donations, 12,000 accumulated members, 663 held campaigns, and 134 registered organizations, and is evaluated as a service that is leading the donation culture using blockchain technology. is getting In particular, it can be seen as a meaningful step because it has expanded the awareness that blockchain technology, which was limited to cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, can be used for good purposes in everyday life by applying it to donations.

Thanks to these achievements, 'CHERRY' was selected as the '2019 Blockchain Private Led National Project' hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and in the same year, 'CHERRY' was honored for its contribution to the vitalization of blockchain technology. In recognition, it was awarded the Minister of Science and Technology Information and Communication Award.

On the other hand, Lee Sujeong , CEO of E4Net, which develops and operates 'CHERRY', said, 'The donation field is where transparency and democracy, which are characteristics of blockchain technology, can exert the greatest value. We ask for your interest and love for CHERRY, who will lead the donation culture and create a warmer society through this.”
